Sailability operates on Tuesday and Thursday morning from approximately mid-September to mid-April. Sailability operates from the Gosford Sailing Club located on Mason’s Parade in Gosford. Volunteers are encouraged to arrive at approximately 9:30. Sailors are encouraged to arrive at about 10:00.
Sailing is open to individuals with all levels of ability. Sailability utilises a hoist for individuals with mobility challenges such as moving about via wheelchair. If the weather does not cooperate… sailors and their carers and volunteers will be notified regarding cancellation.
Sailing is conducted in sailboats called Hansa 303s. These sailing craft are designed to accommodate two people at a time, an experienced skipper and a sailor. Each person sits low in the boat and faces forward. As the boats are designed for high stability, each person remains seated throughout the sail. Lead weighted centreboards contribute to the craft’s stability. If winds become strong whilst the boat is sailing the sails the skipper can “reef”, reducing the sail’s area.
Weather permitting, sailors sail for about half an hour. If desired, the length of the sail can be shortened in length.
